Insider perspective designing your hamptons home
Natalee Bowen knows a thing or two about interior design. With over 20 years experience in the industry and her very own design business Indah Island, her unique Hamptons style is strongly influenced by the lush tropical feel of Australia's mid-north coast. We chat to Natalee about everything you need to get the Hamptons look, from colour palettes to exteriors.
Texture and colour palate are essential when creating the Hamptons style, both internally and externally. Some of my favourite combinations include grey and white with pops of black, and warm neutrals with crisp white trim. The exterior of your home is a priority, so wow the eyes with beautiful seamless features and strong weatherboard lines that are then carried into the home.
Weatherboarding is one of the easiest and most affordable ways to give your exterior that uniquely Hamptons feel, like this home featuring Sycon Linea.
Creating the Hamptons style is all about deciding if you want opulent glamour, coastal chic or classic sophisticated. From there it’s all about creating the summer resort style of living. Think open plan living and entertaining. You want to create that feeling of being on holiday all year round.
Built around the pool area, this beautiful home perfectly emulates The Hampton's resort-style of living.
Think about holidays – creating a relaxed and comfortable space, bringing the outdoors inside and adding pops of colour with greenery and nature. When choosing materials, opt for natural materials like rattan.
Nautical inspired furnishings are a signature element of the Hamptons style, complimented by a neutral colour palette on the weatherboard cladding.
A visual feast
Internal cabinetry with beautiful detail is also essential for your Hamptons-style kitchen. Use wall paneling or interior cladding to create more layers and also create a visual feast of design detail. Coffered ceiling or lined ceilings also add areas of interest.
